A political firestorm erupted in Norman, Oklahoma, this week as City Councilmember Bree Montoya abruptly resigned after a Facebook exchange with a Trump supporter spiraled out of control—ending with Montoya telling the individual to “kill yourself.”
Despite Montoya’s insistence that she stepped down voluntarily, the reality was hard to ignore: pressure mounted from every corner—outraged constituents, Republican leaders, local media, and a furious online community—leaving the embattled councilmember with virtually no political escape route.
The controversy began after screenshots of Montoya’s heated Facebook argument exploded across social media. The dispute centered around the “No Kings” protest earlier this summer, where Montoya clashed with a user in the comments section.
