Initially, Coast Guard leaders had granted Fagan a 60-day grace period to find new accommodations—without the president’s approval. But Homeland Security officials swiftly intervened, informing acting Commandant Kevin Lundy that the president wanted her out immediately.
One of Fagan’s associates was furious over the move, accusing Trump of making it personal.
“It’s petty and it’s personal,” the associate told NBC News.
However, a Trump administration official countered that claim, stating that Fagan had ample time to vacate and instead chose to remain in the government-provided quarters.
“She was terminated with cause two weeks ago today, and she was still living in those admiral quarters,” the official said.
Fagan’s dismissal is no surprise given her controversial tenure. As previously reported by The Gateway Pundit, she was the first woman to lead the Coast Guard or any branch of the U.S. military, but her leadership was marred by failures. Acting Homeland Security Secretary Benjamin Huffman fired her over a series of operational deficiencies and what critics call an excessive focus on political correctness.
Her missteps included neglecting border security threats, failing to address recruitment and retention struggles, and prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives over military readiness. Perhaps most damning was the “erosion of trust” stemming from her handling of sexual assault cases at the Coast Guard Academy, linked to the now-infamous Operation Fouled Anchor scandal.

Fagan faced heavy scrutiny from Congress last summer over the scandal. Lawmakers grilled her for failing to hold Coast Guard officials accountable for covering up the problem and for withholding critical documents lawmakers had requested regarding the mishandling of sexual assault cases.
Beyond that, Fagan’s lackluster approach to recruitment and retention also raised alarms. Her failure to implement innovative strategies to retain personnel in key operational roles severely impacted workforce sustainability, according to an official who spoke with Fox News.
The move to evict Fagan sends a clear message: under the Trump administration, there will be no leniency for bureaucrats who fail in their duties and attempt to cling to power and privilege. The days of unchecked government overreach and special treatment for insiders are over.
