California Governor Gavin Newsom has all but confirmed what many already suspected — he’s got his eyes on the White House. During an interview with CBS News Sunday Morning, Newsom admitted he’s “considering” a run for president in 2028, though he stopped short of making it official.
“Yeah, I’d be lying otherwise,” Newsom confessed when asked if he was looking at a future campaign. “I’d just be lying. And I’m not — I can’t do that.”
While Newsom may claim he hasn’t made up his mind, his recent actions tell a different story. The California Democrat has been touring early primary states, including South Carolina, and ramping up his national profile through a new podcast where he debates conservative guests. According to the New York Post, Newsom has also sharpened his online presence, sparring with Republicans in tweets that mirror Donald Trump’s bold, all-caps style — a curious choice for someone who constantly criticizes Trump’s tone.
