Former Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney is under fire for allegedly violating legal ethics by communicating with a former Trump administration official prior to her testimony before the House January 6 committee. The accusations stem from Cheney’s contact with Cassidy Hutchinson, a former aide to White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, before Hutchinson’s explosive testimony regarding former President Donald Trump.
Rep. Barry Loudermilk, chair of the Committee on House Administration’s Subcommittee on Oversight, released a set of text messages exchanged between Cheney and Hutchinson in 2022. At the time, Cheney was serving as vice chair of the January 6 select committee. Loudermilk pointed out that these communications raise serious concerns regarding Cheney’s conduct as a lawyer.

Hutchinson, during her testimony, had made shocking claims, including that President Trump allegedly lunged for the steering wheel of the presidential limousine after delivering his January 6 speech, demanding to be taken to the Capitol. However, Hutchinson was not in the limousine at the time and her statements were based on second- and third-hand accounts.
