Country music powerhouse Miranda Lambert has sparked outrage among her more progressive fans after revealing her latest passion project: mounted shooting, a high-speed, Wild West-style sport combining horses and revolvers. And the backlash says more about modern America than the hobby itself.
A True American Hobby in a Time of Division
Lambert, 41, shared her new obsession during a long sit-down with Joe Rogan, where she described how she finally decided to take the plunge after years of hesitation.
“I just started last year. I’m not good at all, but I love it,” she told Rogan. Her friend Ken Shane, a 10-time world champion, introduced her to the competitive shooting discipline that celebrates the cowboy heritage woven deep into America’s history.
With her husband, former NYPD officer Brendan McLoughlin, giving her a push, Lambert finally saddled up. “Finally my husband was like, ‘Stop talking about it, and go do it. Go out there and shoot with her. You’re gonna love it,'” she said. “Wow. And I got addicted immediately. It’s just like something different.”
