His declaration came with clear conditions: Mexico and Canada would face a 25% tariff on all goods until illegal immigration into the United States ceases, and China would see a 10% tariff on its products until the flow of fentanyl into the U.S. is stopped.
Trump shared the announcement via Truth Social, writing, “The tariff would start on the first day of my administration and would apply to ALL products coming into the United States, and its ridiculous Open Borders.” He emphasized that these measures would remain in place until the issues of illegal immigration and drug trafficking—specifically fentanyl—are resolved.
