Many on the right had criticized CBS as an unworthy platform for Vance, given Brennan’s track record, particularly after her performance in the Vice Presidential debate. However, conservative commentator Megyn Kelly and War Room podcast host Steve Bannon saw Vance’s decision as a strategic win.
“J.D. is very smart to go on with Margaret Brennan, because some people said, ‘Why is he going to CBS? It’s the enemy. Look what they did to him in the Vice Presidential debate.’ And I thought, no, he’s very smart because she’s adversarial,” Kelly explained on her SiriusXM show.
Kelly noted that Vance’s intellect far surpassed Brennan’s, making it easy for him to dominate the conversation while maintaining an air of professionalism.
“So he knows he can just slice and dice her with ease and do it behaving as a gentleman, but leave everybody with the same impression, which is, she is no match for him and her arguments are no match for his,” Kelly added.
Bannon took the discussion a step further, arguing that Brennan’s interview wasn’t just biased—it was an outright debate disguised as journalism.
“I think this is why they’ve lost the backing of the American people. It’s why the ratings are a disaster,” Bannon said. “It’s not an interview, it’s a debate.”
A key moment in the interview highlighted the media’s tendency to distort facts. Brennan attempted to justify the Biden administration’s lenient stance on illegal immigration by claiming that America was “founded by immigrants.”
That argument didn’t sit well with Kelly, who immediately shut it down.
“By the way, it wasn’t founded by illegal immigrants, and we don’t have to keep the door open to more and more criminals because of what happened 250 years ago,” Kelly stated. “Is that stupidity on her part or just liberal bias?”

Bannon was blunt in his response.
“I think it’s just laziness,” he said. “I think they’ve controlled the apparatus for so long. I mean, you’ve seen this, you know these people, they’ve gotten lazy.”
The reality is that legacy media spent years trying—and failing—to destroy Trump. Despite their relentless attacks, they couldn’t prevent his rise, nor could they stop his supporters from rallying behind him.
In the wake of the 2024 election, the mainstream media suffered a major credibility blow. Their relentless opposition to Trump did little to change the political landscape but did irreparable damage to their own reputations. Viewers have tuned out in droves, leading to plummeting ratings for networks like CNN, MSNBC, and major broadcast news outlets.
Brennan’s approach to Vance is a perfect example of why the media is losing its grip. Rather than engaging in fair journalism, networks like CBS continue to push the same failed narratives and adversarial strategies that led to their downfall in the first place.
The American people have grown weary of the media’s one-sided attacks. As their influence continues to wane, their attempts to take down Trump and his allies will only become more desperate—and more ineffective.
