Mehdi Hasan, a host on MSNBC, and Matt Taibbi, an independent writer, were having a heated argument as anxiety permeated the room. This subject at hand? bombshell reporting from Taibbi’s Twitter Files and his critique of MSNBC’s prior news coverage. Sparks flew, insults were thrown around as the topic heated up, and spectators were glued to their televisions waiting to see what would happen next. That was an open and honest discussion that left nothing unsaid.
While Taibbi testified before Congress, Hasan blasted him for being a lousy journalist for not disclosing his Twitter Files sources. Hasan accused Taibbi of simply “performing PR work for the world’s richest guy” in his opening tirade.

In response, Taibbi said that MSNBC was reporting on “false Russian attack stories.”
“The hilarity of this coming from MSNBC, which did nothing but vomit up fake Russian hit stories that came straight from the FBI for six consecutive years, you guys still haven’t apologized for it.”
Hasan deftly avoided any charges during the time when MSNBC claimed that the laptop belonging to Hunter Biden contained Russian disinformation by claiming that he was not working for the network at the time. Several people were left to question if he knew more than he was letting on by his skillful use of distraction techniques in his response.
Renowned journalist Matt Taibbi vehemently defended his reporting in the Twitter Files, believing that they would outlast the contentious Russian story. He also criticized Hasan for dismissing the Hunter Biden tale, which stoked the ongoing media dispute.
“I don’t think I’ve ever written about the Hunter Biden story, so maybe you should apologize for putting words in my mouth. You said at the beginning I put words, I never said a word about the Hunter Biden story,” Hasan claimed.
One Twitter user, however, provided examples of Hasan “minimizing” the Hunter Biden anecdote.
“Even if every word of the New York Post ‘reporting’ on Hunter Biden is true, every word of it, it still wouldn’t equate to one percent of the corruption stories involving Trump, Trump family members, Trump administration members, or Trump administration members’ family members,” Hasan stated in a tweet from October 2020.
