In an unbelievable move, London officials have responded to the city’s phone theft epidemic — not with more police, not with arrests — but with purple sidewalk markings warning people to “step back” from the curb.

The Westminster Council and the Metropolitan Police have just launched what they call the “Mind the Grab” campaign along the city’s busiest shopping hub, Oxford Street.
The new “safety measure” features purple chalk lines and warnings like “Step back from the Kerb! Phone snatching hot spot.”
Officials even teamed up with electronics retailer Currys to lecture pedestrians about holding onto their phones — instead of cracking down on the criminals doing the stealing.
