Liberal Judge Declares War on ICE Agents

A federal judge in Illinois has ignited a firestorm of outrage after issuing a stunning order that many say punishes law enforcement officers simply for doing their jobs.

U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Cummings, sitting in Cook County, has ruled that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are forbidden from arresting illegal immigrants at courthouses unless they have a warrant — and threatened them with “consequences” if they dare defy his directive.

A Radical Restriction on ICE

The order centers on what’s known as “collateral arrests.” That term refers to ICE agents who, while arresting a specific illegal alien listed on a warrant, also detain other individuals discovered to be in the country illegally.

Judge Cummings decided that courthouses should serve as “safe spaces” for all — even for those breaking immigration law — declaring that “The fair administration of justice requires that courts remain open and accessible, and that litigants and witnesses may appear without fear of civil arrest.”

Critics immediately called the order an outrageous overreach of judicial power, arguing that Cummings is effectively granting immunity to illegal immigrants the moment they step foot inside a courthouse.
