Mesa, Arizona — A so-called “Republican” who threw her support behind Kamala Harris just learned what happens when conservatives fight back.
Mesa City Councilwoman Julie Spillsbury — who infamously endorsed former Vice President Kamala Harris and several left-wing candidates — was reduced to tears on live television after losing a recall election to a conservative challenger backed by Turning Point USA.
Spillsbury, first elected in 2020, easily won re-election in 2024 with 65 percent of the vote. But her cozy relationship with the Left and her record of supporting higher taxes and soft-on-crime policies came back to haunt her.
TPUSA and local residents lead the charge
In January 2025, local residents launched a petition to recall Spillsbury, citing her repeated betrayals of conservative voters. The petition gathered about 4,000 valid signatures — well above the legal threshold — triggering a special all-mail election.
