Instead of praising results, the magazine whined about detention facilities, border enforcement actions, and ICE operations as though law enforcement itself is a crime. In their worldview, applying immigration law equals authoritarianism.
Noem’s Team Fires Back
If New York Magazine thought DHS would roll over with a boilerplate response, they miscalculated badly.
“This NYMag hit piece reads like a preteen rage-scrolling, then prompting ChatGPT for a screed on misogyny,” DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told Fox News Digital.
McLaughlin didn’t stop there. “It’s not just lazy — it’s libelous — peddling anonymous gossip as fact while ignoring our exhaustive, on-the-record rebuttals that destroy their narrative.”
That wasn’t just a rebuttal. It was a demolition. Noem’s team exposed the entire charade for what it was: baseless character assassination wrapped in a cheap veneer of journalism.
The Numbers Don’t Lie
Here’s the part the liberal media won’t touch: the record of DHS under Noem and Trump speaks for itself.
Border Patrol encounters in May 2025 dropped 93% compared to the same month in 2024. Daily crossings are at historic lows, sometimes fewer than 1,000 nationwide.
Even more stunning — zero illegal aliens were released into the country in May 2025. Compare that to May 2024, when over 62,000 were let go.
ICE has arrested more than 359,000 migrants and removed over 332,000 from U.S. soil this year alone. Meanwhile, the Coast Guard has seized massive amounts of narcotics, keeping deadly fentanyl off American streets.
Those are facts. And they prove that law enforcement, when unshackled by political correctness, works.
Media Meltdowns Over Law Enforcement
New York Magazine frames these results as proof of a “police state.” But what they’re really saying is they prefer the Biden-era disaster, when immigration laws were ignored, detention was gutted, and the border was effectively erased.
Liberals aren’t outraged because of humanitarian concerns — they’re angry because enforcement is back, and it’s working.
What’s their alternative? Four more years of chaos, where the southern border was little more than a revolving door? Americans saw what that looked like, and they rejected it.
Noem Wins the Exchange
At the end of the day, the media’s meltdown proves one thing: when conservatives enforce the law, the Left panics.
Anonymous gossip and long-winded hit pieces can’t cover up the numbers. Americans are safer today because immigration law is being applied consistently, firmly, and without apology.
New York Magazine can write a hundred more “exposés.” But McLaughlin’s words summed it up best: “It’s not just lazy — it’s libelous.”
And that’s exactly what millions of Americans see every time the media tries to smear someone who’s actually getting the job done.
