Louisiana’s outspoken Republican Senator John Kennedy is tipping his hat to the Supreme Court after a major ruling many conservatives say puts rogue judges back in their place. Kennedy hailed the high court’s decision to torpedo the controversial practice of universal injunctions—a tool he argues judges have been abusing for years to thwart presidents they dislike.
Appearing Friday on Fox News’ Faulkner Focus, Kennedy couldn’t hide his enthusiasm over the 6-3 Supreme Court decision, which came down in a high-profile case linked to the issue of birthright citizenship. Although the ruling wasn’t directly about birthright citizenship, it has significant implications for how courts handle challenges to executive orders in the future.
“The Supreme Court has turned the universal injunctions into fish food, as well it should have,” Kennedy told host Harris Faulkner. “There’s no basis in statute. There’s no basis in Supreme Court precedent. There is no basis in English common law for universal injunctions.”
