One X user summed up the confusion perfectly, tweeting, “Where does the ladder go to? Where are the construction hats!? The pandering is asinine.”
The choice of setting led many to ask if anyone could seriously believe that Kamala Harris spends any time at construction sites. Even if she did, who in their right mind would select a fake construction site as the backdrop for a serious interview?
The answer seems clear: someone who holds the American public in contempt, someone who thinks we are easily fooled.
It’s not hard to imagine the conversations that took place before the interview, perhaps something like this:
Harris Campaign Operative #1: “What if we position her in front of some wood? That’ll convince the average voter that she’s truly on the side of the working class.”
Harris Campaign Operative #2: “Good idea, but we’ve already got the diehard supporters in our pocket. Let’s throw in a ladder and some equipment to reel in the Independents.”
Harris Campaign Operative #3: “Or, we could actually do something meaningful to help American citizens?”
[Insert uproarious laughter as the scene fades.]
Reactions on X showed that the contrived setting didn’t fool many. Instead, it invited more mockery than anything else.
“I can’t get past the construction zone in the background… Like randomly placed power tools are supposed to convince us how middle-class Kamala is? It’s bizarre,” another user wrote.
“Kamala doing an MSNBC interview in front of a fake construction set is just hilarious… ‘Look how MIDDLE CLASS she is!'” joked another user.
Yet another commenter took the opportunity to offer some advice: “Whoever came up with the background for the Kamala Harris interview should be fired.”

For those willing to endure the nonsense, the full interview is available on YouTube. However, most viewers probably found the staged backdrop more memorable than anything Harris actually said.
Of course, Harris has been notably evasive when it comes to engaging with the press in unscripted settings. In fact, Wednesday’s interview marked her first solo network appearance since being elevated to the top of the Democratic Party ticket after the party’s internal coup sidelined President Joe Biden more than two months ago.
It’s worth noting that her last major interview, which aired on CNN in August, was equally cringe-worthy, featuring Democratic Governor Tim Walz as a co-guest.
Perhaps the Harris campaign hoped that viewers, too distracted by the farcical construction set, wouldn’t notice the vice president’s infamous habit of delivering disjointed, incoherent answers. After all, the scene was ridiculous enough to draw focus away from her trademark word salads.
Regardless of the intent, the American people are far too sharp to be swayed by such blatant and condescending pandering. The real question remains: How long will we tolerate this kind of patronizing behavior from those in power?
