That single admission sent shockwaves through Democratic circles. For months, Harris had been one of Biden’s most vocal defenders, insisting he was sharp, capable, and ready to take on Trump.
Immediately after Biden’s disastrous June 2024 debate, Harris went on CNN insisting that Biden gave “an extraordinarily strong performance” and even claimed, “it was a strong finish.”
But Americans watching from home saw something else entirely. Biden stumbled, mumbled, and lost his train of thought multiple times. His voice rasped as he struggled to finish sentences, and his infamous remark — “We finally beat Medicare” — became the defining soundbite of the night.
Now Harris admits she knew something was wrong before the debate even started. That means her glowing praise afterward wasn’t just spin — it was a cover-up.
Within minutes of the debate ending, panic set in across the Democratic Party. CNN’s John King reported “a deep, a wide, and a very aggressive panic” among top Democrats. It was the worst presidential debate performance in modern political history.
Three weeks later, on July 21, 2024, Biden ended his campaign — effectively ending his decades-long political career.
But Harris wasn’t done talking. In her new memoir 107 Days, she shared more behind-the-scenes details — including her anger at Biden’s failure to honor America’s fallen service members when asked about Afghanistan during the debate.
“He’s got so much material on this — Trump calling our fallen soldiers ‘suckers and losers,’” Harris wrote. “He managed to get off that line but had stepped on it earlier by saying no one had died in wars overseas on his watch, seeming to forget the thirteen marines who died in the bomb blast at the airport during the evacuation of Afghanistan.”
“How could he overlook that day?” she added, recalling being on Air Force Two when the attack occurred.
The chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021 remains one of the darkest marks on Biden’s presidency. Thirteen American service members lost their lives in a suicide bombing at Kabul’s Abbey Gate as the Taliban retook control of the country.
Images of desperate Afghans clinging to departing U.S. aircraft became global symbols of failure — and critics argued it emboldened America’s enemies. That moment destroyed Biden’s credibility as commander-in-chief, and even Harris couldn’t spin it away.
During the podcast, Bartlett asked Harris the question that’s on everyone’s mind: why did Democrats pretend everything was fine when Biden’s decline was “so apparently clear”?
Harris dodged the question. Instead, she offered this insight: “You know, it’s like any competition you go in… you got to want it. If you don’t want to be in the competition, it will absolutely have an impact on your performance. And I don’t think he, I’m pretty sure he did not want to debate.”
Translation: she knew Biden was mentally and emotionally checked out — but she kept up the act.
Harris has admitted in her memoir that she couldn’t tell Biden to drop out because “He would see it as naked ambition, perhaps as poisonous disloyalty.” So she played along. She defended him publicly, kept quiet privately, and positioned herself to take over when the inevitable collapse came.
When Biden finally bowed out and endorsed her, Harris inherited his problems — and his approval ratings. In November 2024, she was crushed by Trump, losing every swing state and the Electoral College 312 to 226.
Now Harris is trying to rewrite history, claiming she “knew” Biden was struggling all along. But where was that honesty when Americans needed it?
