“At President Trump’s direction and in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, I authorized U.S. Africa Command to conduct coordinated airstrikes today targeting ISIS-Somalia operatives in the Golis mountains,” Hegseth revealed. “Our initial assessment is that multiple operatives were killed in the airstrikes and no civilians were harmed. This action further degrades ISIS’s ability to plot and conduct terrorist attacks threatening U.S. citizens, our partners, and innocent civilians.”

Trump did not hold back in his criticism of former President Joe Biden, calling out his administration for failing to act sooner. According to Trump, intelligence on the location of these terrorists had been available for years, but Biden lacked the urgency to act.

“Our Military has targeted this ISIS Attack Planner for years, but Biden and his cronies wouldn’t act quickly enough to get the job done. I did! The message to ISIS and all others who would attack Americans is that ‘WE WILL FIND YOU, AND WE WILL KILL YOU!’” Trump declared.

Somalia has long been a battleground for radical Islamist groups, particularly Al-Shabaab, a powerful terrorist faction affiliated with Al Qaeda. The extremist organization, estimated to have between 7,000 and 10,000 fighters, has conducted numerous deadly attacks throughout East Africa, including the infamous 2013 Westgate Mall siege in Kenya.

While Al-Shabaab remains the dominant terrorist force in the region, ISIS has been steadily growing its influence. The airstrikes against ISIS leaders in Somalia demonstrate the U.S. government’s continued efforts to eliminate terrorist threats before they can strike American interests or allies.

This latest military success follows the 2023 U.S. operation that killed Bilal al-Sudani, a key ISIS leader, along with ten other militants in a remote cave in northern Somalia. The ongoing offensive against ISIS and other jihadist groups underscores President Trump’s commitment to eradicating terrorism worldwide.

With these airstrikes, the Trump administration has sent a powerful message to terrorists worldwide: the United States will not hesitate to strike with overwhelming force when American security is at stake. As ISIS attempts to expand its presence in East Africa, the U.S. military remains vigilant, prepared to strike down threats before they can materialize.
