A Mamdani Official Met With Iran’s Regime

A planned meeting between a senior New York City official and Iran’s top representative to the United Nations was reportedly halted after the U.S. State Department stepped in, raising fresh questions about how Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s administration handles contacts with foreign governments.

The controversy centers on a scheduled meeting involving Ana María Archila, commissioner of New York City’s Office for International Affairs, and Amir-Saeid Iravani, Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations.

According to reporting from City Journal, Archila was listed as an attendee for a July 7 meeting with Iravani. Two additional senior officials from the city’s international affairs office were also expected to participate.
