There are nine people fighting for the prestigious job of House Speaker! This comes after Rep. Jim Jordan, the chair of the House judiciary, resigned from his position. Find out who could be able to lead this week.
Following is a list of the nine candidates:
- Jack Bergman (MI-01)
- Byron Donalds (FL-19)
- Tom Emmer (MN-06)
- Kevin Hern (OK-01)
- Mike Johnson (LA-04)
- Dan Meuser (PA-09)
- Gary Palmer (AL-06)
- Austin Scott (GA-08)
- Pete Sessions (TX-17)
Rep. Byron Donalds is gaining popularity because he is a sensible conservative who can appeal to the powerful MAGA ‘America First’ side of the GOP.
“I am running to become the next Speaker of the House. We need to: Secure our border; Fund our government responsibly; Advance our conservative agenda; Expand our Republican majority Let’s get to work!” He published an interview on Newsmax coupled with an article on X.
Trending Politics reports that a number of Republicans who had previously voted against Jim Jordan have suddenly declared their support for Donalds, a fellow member of the Freedom Caucus. The influence of these endorsements may be crucial in convincing other Jordan holdouts to support Donald Trump.
Following earlier references, Donalds officially launches his bid for House Speaker, garnering media attention. He garnered prominence in January when he cast a pivotal vote against former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA). Despite resistance, Donalds received votes this week and was nominated on later polls.
“Look, let’s be very clear. Our House right now, we’re having some issues. We can repair those issues, but it requires us to be unified,” Shortly after announcing his campaign, Donalds told Newsmax. “Number one, go back to business and secure our border, actually fund this government responsibly and then continue to lay out that conservative vision for the people who sent us here. That job can still be done. I believe I am the leader that can get that job done.”
Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) asserts that he is being “evicted” from his Windsor office as a result of his opposition to Jim Jordan’s (R-OH) campaign for House Speaker.
Famous pundit Buck, a popular guest on major news networks including CNN and MSNBC, openly admitted to NBC’s Kristen Welker that he has received ominous “death threats” as a result of his staunch opposition to voting for Jordan. He voiced his irritation over the large number of calls from worried people pleading with him to modify his position, which only made matters worse.
