Democrats are once again proving that political games come before American families. As the government shutdown drags into its 34th day, millions who rely on food assistance could be left without the help they desperately need. And House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries just confirmed what critics have been saying all along — Democrats are perfectly fine letting families go hungry if it means scoring political points.
A Cold “No” to Millions in Need
Facing reporters this week, Jeffries was asked a simple question: Would Democrats vote for the GOP’s funding bill to immediately restore SNAP benefits? His response was chillingly short — “No.”
That single word sent shockwaves across the nation. Roughly 42 million Americans rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to put food on the table. Yet, while their benefits hang in limbo, Jeffries and his party refuse to budge.
The Trump administration, attempting to avert disaster, announced it would use the remaining funds in the emergency SNAP contingency account to deliver half of November’s benefits. But the payment could take weeks to reach recipients — meaning millions could face empty plates this Thanksgiving.
