Auto giant Stellantis has launched an urgent recall of more than 375,000 plug-in hybrid SUVs after reports that their batteries could spontaneously burst into flames — even when parked. The recall affects select 2020–2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe and 2022–2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe models, with roughly 320,000 vehicles in the United States alone.

The company has confirmed 19 fires and one injury tied to the issue so far, and what’s worse, some of the vehicles that caught fire had already been “fixed” under previous recalls.

This is far from Stellantis’s first attempt to tackle this growing safety nightmare. The automaker previously recalled 32,000 Jeeps in November 2023 and 154,000 more in September 2024 for the same battery-related fire risk. Both times, Jeep owners were told that new software updates would solve the issue.

They didn’t.

“The fires kept happening,” reports confirm. Now, Stellantis has expanded the recall to 375,000 vehicles worldwide, marking its third major safety crisis in just two years.
