In one of the most stunning and controversial election results in recent memory, Democrat Jay Jones has narrowly defeated Republican incumbent Jason Miyares to become Virginia’s next Attorney General — despite shocking revelations that Jones once sent text messages fantasizing about murdering his political opponents and their families.
According to Fox News exit polls, fewer than half of Virginia voters considered the vile and violent text messages “disqualifying.” With 96.4% of precincts reporting, Jones captured 52.7% of the vote compared to Miyares’ 46.9%, flipping the race just two hours after polls closed Tuesday night.
The outcome stunned many political watchers, as Miyares appeared poised for victory following the bombshell discovery of Jones’ texts in early October — messages that seemed certain to end any political career.
Back in 2022, Jay Jones reportedly sent a string of alarming texts to a former colleague in the Virginia House of Delegates. The messages revealed a violent obsession with eliminating political adversaries, including then–House Speaker Todd Gilbert.
