Janet Yellen’s Outrageous “Duty” Demand

America’s elite continue to invest in the protection of Ukraine’s borders despite having to deal with an ongoing flood of illegal immigration. The recent visit to the state by Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen may have further established its significance as a top international concern.

She said in a recent op-ed for the New York Times that American support for Zelensky’s struggle “is motivated, first and foremost, by a moral duty to come to the aid of a people under attack.”

Americans often stress the moral need to support countries that are under assault, so why didn’t the US step in when Chechen terrorists attacked and terrorized Russia? Might this “moral duty” just apply in cases that our political leaders judge deserving or significant?

Treasury Secretary Yellen was unambiguous in saying that America’s commitment to the area is “not over,” promising continuous investment of time and resources, notwithstanding the enormous amounts already committed in Ukraine. As she put it:

“Our work is not over. In fact, it is more vital than ever that we continue supporting the Ukrainians. Ukraine’s military resistance depends on a government that can function effectively, as well as a stable economy that can help finance defense efforts over the long term. By fortifying the ‘home front,’ our economic assistance is helping make possible Ukraine’s stalwart frontline defense against Russia.”

Moreover, she said without supporting evidence that the sanctions regime “systematically degraded Russia’s military-industrial complex and reduced revenues that the Kremlin is relying on to fund its war. As demonstrated by our new actions last week, we will not rest until the war is over.”

Despite having greater military resources, the West is unable to provide Ukraine with the necessary backing to defend itself against Russia. Russia can fire seven times as many artillery rounds per day as Kiev, but NATO members are hampered by sluggish munitions manufacturing and expensive inflationary pressures.

She tweeted to further the post, stating in her statement : “U.S. economic assistance plays a foundational role in supporting Ukraine’s resistance to Russia’s illegal and immoral war. And as President Zelenskyy has said, our assistance is not charity – it’s an investment in global security and democracy.”

While Janet Yellen’s justification for moral need was debatable, her decision to put Ukraine’s needs ahead of America’s made it obvious that the nation is dedicated to maintaining world peace. This exhibit, according to Breitbart, highlights the significance and influence of US sanctions on international choices.

Despite being thousands of miles from American land, Secretary Yellen praised the U.S. investment in Ukraine’s border security in an opinion piece, omitting to mention the unrest on our own southern border. “our commitment to our ideals — and our capacity to see in others the same desires that animated our own struggles for freedom and justice.”

Notwithstanding the efforts of the US Border Patrol, approximately 300,000 illegal immigrants have crossed into the US this fiscal year, a sharp rise from the 2,000,000 apprehended in FY 2022.
