Bondi Lowers the Boom
The federal response came less than a day after Attorney General Pam Bondi vowed that the Department of Justice would no longer tolerate left-wing mobs terrorizing ICE agents.
“I have witnessed the continued onslaught of violence perpetrated against ICE officers across our country. The Department of Justice will not stand idly by in the face of such lawlessness. At my direction, I am deploying DOJ agents to ICE facilities—and wherever ICE comes under siege—to safeguard federal agents, protect federal property, and immediately arrest all individuals engaged in any federal crime,” Bondi declared in a statement posted on X.
She added: “Pursuant to President Trump’s recent executive action, I am also instructing the Joint Terrorism Task Forces across the country to disrupt and investigate all entities and individuals engaged in acts of domestic terrorism, including the repeated acts of violence and obstruction against federal agents. The Department of Justice will seek the most serious available charges against all participants in these criminal mobs, including conspiracy offenses, assault offenses, civil disorder offenses, and terrorism offenses. While these never-ending attacks are designed to break our will, they only strengthen our resolve to complete the work begun.”
Democrat Candidates Caught on Camera
The Broadview chaos has been fueled not only by street agitators but also by far-left Democrat candidates. Footage has surfaced of Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss and progressive activist Kat Abughazaleh openly blocking federal vehicles, a blatant federal crime. In one shocking moment, Abughazaleh even bragged online: “At the Broadview ICE facility, an ICE agent tried to run dozens of protesters over with an SUV as we walked on a public crosswalk.”
Instead of condemning violence against officers, these candidates appear eager to score political points by putting federal law enforcement at risk.
Escalation on the Ground
Over the last several weeks, agents at Broadview have been forced to rely on tear gas, pepper spray, and rubber bullets just to disperse violent crowds. But they have been consistently outnumbered. According to federal statute 18 U.S.C. § 111, obstructing or assaulting federal officers is a felony — yet until now, mobs have operated with near impunity.
That changed this weekend. Within hours of DHS and ATF reinforcements arriving, agents pushed into the crowds, made arrests, and confiscated items including shields and umbrellas used by protesters as weapons.
Trump Authorizes “Full Force”
The Illinois siege is just one front. Across the country, similar attacks have flared, especially in Portland. President Donald Trump made clear that federal facilities will not fall. “At the request of Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, I am directing Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to provide all necessary Troops to protect War ravaged Portland, and any of our ICE Facilities under siege from attack by Antifa, and other domestic terrorists,” Trump announced on Truth Social. “I am also authorizing Full Force, if necessary.”
The Bottom Line
What’s happening in Broadview isn’t “protest.” It’s a sustained campaign of violence against the men and women tasked with upholding America’s immigration laws. The arrival of federal counterterrorism forces signals that the DOJ and Trump White House are finished playing defense. With arrests already underway and felony charges looming, the message is clear: the days of unchecked lawlessness at ICE facilities are over.
