During a Capitol Hill press conference on Thursday, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced that Democrats intend to pursue impeachment proceedings against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem if she is not removed from office.
Jeffries accused Noem of responsibility for the deaths, declaring she had “presided over the cold-blooded killings of American citizens like Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti.”
He continued with an extended attack on both Noem and Republicans who voted to confirm her.
“Shame on every Republican in the Senate who put this wildly unqualified person into a position of significance, the Department of Homeland Security, so she could unleash brutalization on everyday Americans, American citizens, and law-abiding immigrant families. It’s disgraceful. She’s got to go. We are dead serious,” Jeffries said. “She needs to be put on ice permanently.”
The phrase immediately raised eyebrows, given its common association with violence and death.
Jeffries did not stop there. He quickly broadened his attacks to include White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, one of President Trump’s most prominent immigration policy advisers.
“He’s a stone-cold liar, he’s a bigot, he’s a hateful individual. He’s a malignant, unelected interloper,” Jeffries said. “He needs to go as well.”
The rhetoric underscores what many conservatives see as a familiar pattern: Democrats responding to civil unrest not by condemning violence, but by attacking law enforcement and officials tasked with enforcing federal law. Similar dynamics played out during the riots of 2020, when Democratic leaders frequently minimized violence while pushing to defund police departments nationwide.
The threats don’t end with rhetoric. Senate Democrats have already begun leveraging government funding to force policy concessions. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer reportedly escalated the situation earlier this week with an explosive outburst targeting both Noem and Miller.
“Kristi Noem and Stephen Miller are f*cking liars,” Schumer said, while demanding that DHS and ICE be defunded. Democrats have threatened to shut down the federal government if their demands are not met.
President Trump responded forcefully on Friday, defending Noem and warning Republicans not to cave as DHS funding faces a looming expiration.
He urged lawmakers not to “let these Crooked Democrats, who are stealing Billions of Dollars from Minnesota, and other Cities and States from all over the Country, push you around.”
With Democrats openly signaling impeachment threats, defunding demands, and shutdown tactics, the message is clear: if they regain control of Congress, Trump’s cabinet—and his agenda—will face nonstop political warfare.
As November approaches, voters will ultimately decide whether accountability lies with those enforcing the law—or with those now demanding their removal.
