The entertainment world was stunned this week by the sudden death of former child actor Blake Garrett, who passed away at just 33 years old. Garrett, remembered by many millennials for his role in the mid-2000s family comedy How to Eat Fried Worms, died Sunday in Oklahoma following a short and unexpected medical battle.
According to his mother, Carol Garrett, the actor had been hospitalized only a week earlier after being diagnosed with shingles. She shared the news with TMZ, explaining that the rapid decline caught the family completely off guard. An official cause of death has not yet been released, but the family fears the circumstances may involve an accidental complication.

Though his acting career was relatively brief, Garrett left a lasting impression on audiences. In How to Eat Fried Worms, he played “Plug,” the loyal sidekick to the film’s primary bully.
