The entertainment world was stunned this week by the sudden death of former child actor Blake Garrett, who passed away at just 33 years old. Garrett, remembered by many millennials for his role in the mid-2000s family comedy How to Eat Fried Worms, died Sunday in Oklahoma following a short and unexpected medical battle.

According to his mother, Carol Garrett, the actor had been hospitalized only a week earlier after being diagnosed with shingles. She shared the news with TMZ, explaining that the rapid decline caught the family completely off guard. An official cause of death has not yet been released, but the family fears the circumstances may involve an accidental complication.
Garrett’s mother said she believes her son may have attempted to self-medicate after learning of his diagnosis, a decision she worries could have had fatal consequences. Authorities have not confirmed that theory, and the case remains under review as officials await final medical findings.
Though his acting career was relatively brief, Garrett left a lasting impression on audiences. In How to Eat Fried Worms, he played “Plug,” the loyal sidekick to the film’s primary bully. The movie followed a young boy named Billy, portrayed by Luke Benward, who accepts a humiliating dare to eat worms for a month to prove his toughness. While Garrett’s on-screen character helped antagonize the hero, the reality behind the scenes was very different.
