Former Vice President Mike Pence appears to be weighing another shot at the presidency—despite the bruising defeat of his 2024 campaign. During a recent forum in Erie, Pennsylvania, Pence made remarks that sounded less like a farewell and more like a soft launch for 2028.
A Subtle Swipe at Trump?
Speaking at an event hosted by the Jefferson Educational Institute, Pence reflected on the intersection of faith and politics, but his tone carried an unmistakable edge. While never mentioning Donald Trump by name, Pence spoke pointedly about values and integrity in leadership.
“We must resist the temptation to trade principle for power,” he said, connecting his comments to Jeffersonian ideals.
The line landed like a veiled rebuke toward his former running mate, under whom he served loyally for four years before their dramatic falling out over the 2020 election certification.
Calling for a “Return to Core Values”
Pence used the platform to sketch his vision of what he believes the Republican Party should stand for in the coming years. He urged conservatives to realign with “core values of limited government, strong defense, and family values,” suggesting that infighting and populist flare-ups have distracted the GOP from its foundation.
