The Democratic Party is facing a full-blown identity crisis as lifelong supporters across the nation say they’ve had enough. On Friday, an Oklahoma man who described himself as a “Democrat all my life” told C-SPAN that he’s done with the party after watching it spiral into something unrecognizable.
“I’ve been a Democrat all my life. I’m 78 — and my folks were too — but this party has changed so damn much,” the frustrated caller told Washington Journal. “It makes me sick. I’m going to move out of it. It’s terrible. Schumer, he needs to be in a home. Take Pelosi with him.”
The voter admitted that he backed Kamala Harris in 2024 — not because he supported her, but simply out of habit. Now, he says, he can’t do it anymore. “It’s terrible,” he added, summing up how many traditional Democrats are feeling as the party moves further left.
And he’s far from alone.
The man’s call came just days after another C-SPAN viewer from Pennsylvania — also a Democrat — said she’s finished voting for the party. Her frustration centered on the current government shutdown, which began October 1st after Senate Democrats, led by Chuck Schumer, blocked a bipartisan bill that could have kept the government open.
