In another post, the Trump campaign highlighted the brevity of Harris’ visit, stating, “After returning from her glitzy fundraisers in San Francisco, Kamala Harris showed up to the FEMA headquarters, spent less than five minutes reading off a script about hurricane relief, and then bolted before the press could ask her questions.”
One social media account, “Insurrection Barbie,” shared a clip of reporters attempting to question Harris, only to be met with silence as she walked away. The post was captioned, “Imagine voting for this,” underscoring the disdain felt by some over Harris’ actions. Many X users echoed similar sentiments, expressing disappointment in Harris’ apparent lack of engagement during the visit.
In contrast, some users on the platform pointed out the difference in how former President Donald Trump handled the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Unlike Harris, Trump made the effort to travel to some of the hardest-hit areas, taking the time to meet with residents and see the devastation firsthand.
Trump didn’t stop there—on Monday, he launched a $1 million GoFundMe campaign to assist victims of the storm. “With so many across the Southeastern U.S. facing challenges after the storm, President Trump is on the ground in communities to see the aftermath firsthand,” the campaign’s page states. “All donations will be directed to help those most affected by Hurricane Helene. Any level of generosity will go a long way for your fellow Americans who are suffering.”
The fundraising effort quickly gained traction, with major figures and businesses stepping up to contribute. Former U.S. Senator Kelly Loeffler of Georgia donated a whopping $500,000 to the cause. Bass Pro Shop, a retailer known for its outdoor gear and wilderness-themed stores, also made a significant contribution of $100,000, as reported by Fox News.
Additionally, Dana White, the CEO of the Ultimate Fighting Championship and a known supporter of Trump, matched Bass Pro Shop’s donation with $100,000 of his own. Hedge fund billionaire William Ackman also pledged $100,000, joining other notable donors such as musician Kid Rock, U.S. Senator John Barrasso, R-Wyo., and personal injury attorney Dan Newlin.

The stark contrast between Harris’ brief appearance and Trump’s hands-on approach has become a talking point among conservative circles. Many have argued that Harris’ actions lacked the urgency and compassion necessary in times of crisis, especially compared to Trump’s personal efforts on the ground.
While the Trump campaign continues to draw attention to Harris’ handling of the situation, it’s clear that the former president’s proactive response to Hurricane Helene has resonated with his supporters and the wider public. The campaign’s $1 million fundraising initiative, along with Trump’s visits to storm-ravaged areas, is being hailed as a testament to his ongoing commitment to the American people.
As the aftermath of Hurricane Helene continues to unfold, the political battle over disaster response is far from over. With Trump and Harris embodying two very different approaches, the coming weeks will likely see more heated debate about leadership in times of crisis. Whether or not Harris’ quick visit will be viewed as a misstep remains to be seen, but for now, the Trump campaign is making sure the contrast between the two leaders is front and center.
