At a sizable event in Conway, South Carolina, President Trump sparked controversy when he inquired about the whereabouts of Nikki Haley’s spouse. Haley and her spouse responded sharply to this, garnering national attention.
Trump was discussing how former South Carolina governor and first U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley, his lone challenger for the Republican presidential nomination, had visited his Palm Beach, Florida, estate, Mar-a-Lago, with her husband and vowed never to run against him. Following that, Trump repeatedly questioned where Haley’s husband was concluding, saying, “He knew, he knew,” presumably alluding to signed affidavits that claimed Haley had indiscretions in the past that were just made public by the Daily Mail.

Nikki Haley’s husband, Major Michael Haley, has been serving a one-year assignment in the Horn of Africa with the South Carolina Army National Guard since last June.
Trump said, “…I will never run against him. Then she comes over to see me at Mar-a-Lago. ‘Sir, I will never run against you.’ She brought her husband. Where’s your husband? Oh, he’s away. He’s away. What happened to her husband? What happened to her husband? Where is he? He’s gone! He knew. He knew.”
Most of the media has attacked Trump in response, accusing him of making fun of Michael Haley’s service, however the New York Times surprise published the truthful title, “Trump Insinuates Haley’s Husband Deployed to Africa to Escape Her”
Haley and her spouse both replied to Trump’s statements on Twitter, and Haley brought up the matter when she stopped by in South Carolina as part of her campaign.
Presumably from a military installation in Africa, Michael Haley shared a picture with the caption, “The difference between humans and animals? Animals would never allow the dumbest ones to lead the pack,” over a wolf picture. With over a million views, the tweet was directed against Trump and several media sources.

Nikki Haley wrote: “Michael is deployed serving our country, something you know nothing about. Someone who continually disrespects the sacrifices of military families has no business being commander in chief.”
At a small gathering in Gilbert, South Carolina, Haley also gave her response:
“Donald Trump had a rally today. And in that rally, he mocked my husband’s military service. And I’ll say this: Donald, If you have something to say, don’t say it behind my back, get on a debate stage and say it to my face….If you mock the service of a combat veteran, you don’t deserve a driver’s license, let alone being President of the United States.
At Trump’s rally in South Carolina earlier on Saturday, esteemed combat veteran Rep. Michael Waltz (R-FL) spoke to the audience how, when Joe Biden refused to visit them, President Trump met and remained with Gold Star families from the 2021 Afghanistan airport attack for hours:
When the meeting was held in August 2023, Waltz shared the following photo:
