GOP Megadonors Abandon Primary Race Amid Trump Surge!

Against all expectations, Trump not only won the Republican nomination but also shocked the world by defeating Hillary Clinton, the front-runner in the Democratic primary.

Powerful contributors stop supporting Trump’s primary rivals because they believe he will win the GOP nominee in 2024 with a clear route to victory. Singer & Co. initially encouraged support, but they have now changed their focus.

“It’s becoming clear the cavalry’s not coming,” The Wall Street Journal quoted Ken Spain, a veteran GOP strategist who counsels corporate interests on Washington. “The donor community has come to recognize the strength of Trump and the difficulty in dislodging a major part of the base from him. You’re tilting at windmills if you try.”

The WSJ continued:

In a recent message to contributors, Rob Collins, who co-chairs a super PAC backing South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, stated that it was taking action that “would be obvious in the business world” by postponing a large portion of its upcoming autumn advertising.

According to a copy of the letter acquired by The Wall Street Journal, he wrote, “This electorate is locked up,” and that Republicans who support Trump would be “wasting money” until the GOP field shrinks.

The former president is not just in charge of the polls but is also a fundraising powerhouse. “Fueled heavily by small donors,” according to WSJ, “Trump’s campaign raised about $25 million between July 1 and Sept. 30, while DeSantis’s, the next highest, raised $11 million.” While each individual may only give $3,300 to a candidate during the primaries, rich contributors can contribute millions to super PACs that support particular candidates.

Major Republican contributors are anticipated to put winning back control of the U.S. Senate before helping the presidential campaign, according to an unnamed person who closely coordinates with finance industry funders. Large GOP contributors are unhappy with Donald Trump’s success, but the source also stated that they have come to terms with the possibility that he will be the party’s candidate.

Not all significant GOP contributors are abstaining from politics this election year, despite the possibility that some do so idly. Consider Richard Hihlein and his wife Elizabeth as an illustration. They just made a massive $2 million donation to a super PAC allied with Ron DeSantis, making them one of the most prosperous and charitable donors in the party.

“Billionaire Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison has said he is all-in on a Scott campaign, and he donated $30 million to a Scott super PAC ahead of the midterm elections. Robert Bigelow, a Las Vegas hotel and aerospace entrepreneur, gave $20 million in March to DeSantis’s super PAC,” the WSJ added.

Leading Republicans, including Singer’s network and the powerful Koch family, are ready to support a front-runner in Iowa. In the event that this happens, they would contribute millions of dollars to the candidate’s campaign during the crucial Super Tuesday primary.

But that said, “The aides who have discussed such a scenario acknowledge it is unlikely to come to pass—and probably wouldn’t work anyway,” the WSJ reported.

In the polls, Trump is swiftly catching up to President Joe Biden and leading the GOP contest. In fact, he is now beginning to outperform the incumbent president in a sizable number of polls.

A well-known pollster recently predicted that Trump may win the presidency by a “electoral landslide” in the upcoming election. The popularity of President Joe Biden is waning, and “Bidenomics” is having a detrimental effect on the financial security of most Americans.
