Fulton County Women Awarded By Biden Administration

The Presidential Citizens Medal was recently given to two Georgian women who in 2020 showed a dedication to doing their civic responsibility and garnered national recognition for it.

On the anniversary of the Capitol invasion, President Joe Biden recognized the bravery of 14 people for their actions during one of our country’s most turbulent political periods. He paid homage to people who boldly stood up for democracy and opposed a tumultuous chapter in American history, one that will permanently alter the way we go forward as a country.

Two devoted poll workers in Fulton County, Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, have been cleared of all allegations after an initial inquiry. While doing crucial election-related tasks, they stay dedicated to serving their community with honesty.

Biden commended the recipients for their work on “July 6th” throughout the event.

“A violent mob of insurrectionists assaulted law enforcement, vandalized sacred halls, hunted down elected officials — all for the purpose of attempting to overthrow the will of the people and usurp the peaceful transfer of power,” Today at the White House, President Biden spoke on his views on the subject; the speech was recorded and made available as a transcript.

“All of it — all of it was fueled by lies about the 2020 election. But on this day two years ago, our democracy held because “we the people,” as the Constitution refers to us, we the people did not flinch,” he said.

A special award was given by President Biden to a number of people who bravely served the country and their communities. They included Capitol Police officers, Metropolitan Police officers, and five citizens, including Albert Schmidt from the Philadelphia County Board of Elections, Jocelyn Benson from Michigan, and Rusty Bowers, a former speaker of the Arizona House. This honor wasn’t merely an appreciation; it brought attention to remarkable deeds that best represent real patriotism.

When false claims surfaced in 2020, Freeman and Moss were unfairly fired from their positions as poll workers. The Associated Press reported earlier this year that further research had shown their innocence.

Two poll workers who testified before the committee on January 6 noted that the election day damage was already irreparable.

Freeman illustrated the severity of the harassment she faced with a detailed illustration of what it was like.

“I wore a shirt that proudly proclaimed that I was, and I am Lady Ruby. Actually, I had that shirt in every color. I wore that shirt on election day 2020. I haven’t worn it since, and I’ll never wear it again,” Freeman said.

Moss told the panel that she didn’t think she would ever feel that her case had been resolved fairly.

“Because of the lies, there are some days I don’t want to get out of bed. There are some days I want to curl up under the covers and disappear. Because of the lies, I’ve lost who I was, and I’ll never be able to do the work I felt I was called to do. My life will never be the same.

“I had to just come to terms with the fact that there will always be people who believe these lies about me. Always. There will always be someone who believes  I should be in prison or that I should be dead. There’s no way to fix what happened to me,” she said.

The award, which is regarded as a prestigious symbol of compassion and bravery, pays tribute to those who have selflessly heeded calls to serve in their communities. This can be done in a number of ways, including consistently helping others while away from home or acting with extraordinary bravery. This honor is also given to people whose perseverance has allowed them to work through challenging situations over an extended period of time and, as a result, have had a lasting impact on the lives of others.
