But instead of focusing solely on personal accolades, Yingst turned the spotlight to a situation largely ignored by much of the mainstream media: Israel’s prolonged restrictions on independent reporting in Gaza.
For over two years, Israel has barred international journalists from entering Gaza on their own.¹ The only access allowed is tightly controlled military embeds, where the Israeli Defense Forces dictate who reporters meet, what they see, and review all footage before it is published.¹ Even Israeli journalists are blocked from entering under this policy.
