A stunning federal case out of Massachusetts is raising serious concerns about the integrity of a key U.S. immigration program after authorities say a group of foreign nationals orchestrated fake violent crimes to fast-track their legal status.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, ten Indian nationals have been indicted in what prosecutors describe as a calculated and organized visa fraud scheme. Investigators allege the group staged armed robberies at small businesses, including convenience stores and fast-food restaurants, not to steal money but to manufacture victims.
The goal was simple but alarming. Participants would later claim they were victims of violent crimes in order to qualify for special immigration protections under the U visa program.
Federal officials say the indictments were handed down by a grand jury in Massachusetts, marking the latest move in a broader crackdown on immigration fraud schemes that exploit humanitarian pathways.
The individuals charged in the case include Jitendrakumar Patel, Maheshkumar Patel, Sanjaykumar Patel, Dipikaben Patel, Rameshbhai Patel, Amitabahen Patel, Ronakkumar Patel, Sangitaben Patel, Minkesh Patel, and Sonal Patel.
