Steve D’Antuono, who was the head of the FBI’s Washington Field Office at the time, has expressed deep reservations about the operation, warning that it could backfire and further erode public trust in the agency.
“I was worried about it increasing distrust in us,” D’Antuono said in a recent interview with NBC News. His concerns weren’t just professional; they were personal as well. “We all thought this posed a risk to us both professionally and personally.
