Now, a federal investigation involving individuals connected to Governor Gavin Newsom’s political circle is drawing renewed attention after new details emerged about how investigators gathered evidence.
According to a report published by the New York Post, the FBI had a confidential cooperator working within Newsom’s broader political network well before the federal investigation reportedly expanded to include the governor and his wife. The report suggests federal investigators had been collecting evidence for months before many Sacramento insiders realized the scope of the inquiry.
The newspaper identified veteran Democratic operative Alexis Podesta as the individual who secretly recorded conversations during the corruption investigation involving Dana Williamson, Newsom’s former chief of staff.
