One of the most explosive revelations was that Fani Willis had hired her secret romantic partner, Nathan Wade, as a “special prosecutor.” Wade raked in more than $600,000 in taxpayer money — all while wining and dining Willis and whisking her away on vacations.
The arrangement was so unethical that it triggered a brutal court battle that ultimately ended her role in the case.
Despite leaving the charges intact, the Georgia Appeals Court made one thing perfectly clear: Willis and her office had “no authority to proceed.” Their removal was based on the unmistakable appearance of corruption.
Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee eventually put the entire matter on borrowed time. He told prosecutors they had just 14 days to appoint a qualified replacement for Willis. If they failed, the case would be dismissed without prejudice.
With hours left on the clock, Pete Skandalakis — Executive Director of the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia — stepped in as “District Attorney pro tempore.”
And then, in a move that shocked nearly everyone, he ended the entire prosecution.
Skandalakis’ decision was a rebuke not just of the case itself, but of where it was filed. He said the actions in question were tied to Washington, D.C., not Georgia — and that the state should never have been used as a political weapon.
“The criminal conduct alleged in the Atlanta Judicial Circuit’s prosecution was conceived in Washington, D.C., not the State of Georgia. The federal government is the appropriate venue for this prosecution, not the State of Georgia,” he wrote.
He then added a pointed comparison to Special Counsel Jack Smith:
“Indeed, if Special Counsel Jack Smith, with all the resources of the federal government at his disposal… concluded that prosecution would be fruitless, then I too find that… pursuing the prosecution… would be equally unproductive.”
It was a knockout blow.
President Trump celebrated the dismissal with a sweeping statement, blasting the case as corrupt from the start. He said:
“BREAKING NEWS! LAW and JUSTICE have prevailed in the Great State of Georgia, as the corrupt Fani Willis Witch Hunt against me, and other Great American Patriots, has been DISMISSED in its entirety…”
The former president praised the ruling as a major win not only for him, but for every American watching the justice system being weaponized against political opponents.
The downfall of Willis’ case is yet another example of overreach blowing up in the faces of Democrat prosecutors. What began as a legally shaky, politically motivated effort ended in scandal, humiliation, and total collapse.
And according to Trump, it won’t be the last.
