In the approaching 2024 election, President Joe Biden may be less dependent on black voters as a result of a dip in Democratic support among some black neighborhoods, claims Politico.
Politico claims that Republicans have made gains in recent elections and polls by luring voters who had previously supported Democrats. Biden faces a hurdle because he cannot count on the same path to victory as in 2020 due to the shift in support.
An early October Fox News poll found that among black voters, Biden has a commanding 74 percent to 26 percent edge over former President Donald Trump. However, this is a decrease from Biden’s prior lead of 90% among the same group in 2020.
According to Catalist, a prominent Democratic data company, the Democratic candidate in districts with a majority of black people earned 88% of the black vote in the 2022 midterm elections, a tiny decline from the 91% support they received in the previous election.
Politico reported that there has been a decline in support for several demographics. Millennials and Gen Z have decreased from 91% to 84 percent of black votes. Men’s participation has decreased from 87 to 83 percent, that of rural inhabitants from 84 to 80 percent, and that of those without a college degree from 91 to 87 percent.
Voter turnout is a critical issue for Democrats, as demonstrated by the last Louisiana governor election, in which Republican Attorney General Jeff Landry won.
In comparison to 2019, there was a 10 percentage point drop in voter turnout across the state, with black voters experiencing an even larger drop.

“Jeff Landry was getting double digits [in heavily black precincts] once you got outside of the urban areas of Baton Rouge and New Orleans — that very much catches my attention,” Republican pollster from Louisiana, John Couvillon, told Politico.
