Former CNN anchor Don Lemon, long a champion of left-wing activism on air, now finds himself in the crosshairs of federal law. Lemon recently boasted on social media about his “journalism,” but that same work could land him behind bars under the Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871.
The Justice Department has launched an investigation into Lemon’s role in a protest that invaded Cities Church in Minneapolis, raising serious legal questions. Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon revealed Monday that the Klan Act—originally used to prosecute the Ku Klux Klan during Reconstruction—may apply to Lemon and Black Lives Matter activists who disrupted a Sunday service.
“The Klan Act is one of the most important federal civil rights statutes in the country,” Dhillon told podcaster Benny Johnson. “It makes it illegal to threaten, hurt, or intimidate people to prevent them from exercising their God-given rights.”
The law addresses conspiracies to strip Americans of their constitutional rights, exactly what unfolded when protesters rushed the church chanting “ICE out!” and yelling about Renee Good. The service was forced to end after just 20 minutes.
