Ruben Gallego, a first-term senator representing Arizona, signaled over the weekend that he may throw his hat into the ring for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination. His comments came during a national interview, where he openly acknowledged that Democrats who managed to win in states carried by Donald Trump now face mounting pressure to step up as potential national contenders.

Gallego, who comes from a military background and attended Harvard University, framed the decision as something bigger than personal ambition. Instead, he suggested it’s part of a broader calculation among Democrats trying to rebuild after a disappointing electoral performance.

“Obviously, like any other elected official, especially ones that won red states in 2024, we have to look at it,” he said.
