CNN is once again under fire after one of its senior correspondents made a stunningly inaccurate claim about firearms during live coverage of Wednesday’s horrific church shooting in Minneapolis. The network’s blunder has reignited criticism that corporate media outlets deliberately mislead viewers when it comes to guns.
The nation is still reeling after a devastating attack unfolded at Annunciation Catholic Church and School in South Minneapolis. At around 8:30 a.m., a gunman opened fire during a school Mass that marked the start of the new academic year. The tragedy left two children, just 8 and 10 years old, dead inside the pews where they had gathered to pray. Seventeen more people were shot, including 14 children. Seven remain in critical condition as the community mourns.
During CNN’s coverage of the attack, Senior Justice Correspondent Evan Perez made remarks about the type of weapon recovered that left viewers stunned. Instead of reporting facts, Perez repeated misinformation about how firearms work.
