China Is Buying Up American Farmland At An Alarming Rate

Chinese people now own 338,000 acres of American farmland, according to figures from the Agriculture Department, a significant increase over the previous ten years.

According to Agriculture Department statistics obtained by the Wall Street Journal, Chinese nationals have bought a considerable increase in U.S. farmland over the previous ten years – an extra 75,000 acres. Despite making up less than 1% of all foreign-owned agricultural land in America, the surge has government authorities worried that China may utilize it for military and espionage purposes; yet, this is still important to pay attention to given the possible effects on national security.

“South Dakota is now the only home of the B-21 Bomber,” Republican governor of South Dakota Kristi Noem remarked on Friday. “That’s huge for both our state’s economy and our national security, but it also means that hostile countries like China are going to do whatever they can to get intelligence on that bomber.”

“Just last year we saw a Chinese entity purchase land near an Air Force Base in North Dakota,” Noem said. “Though they claimed it was for corn processing, there is not enough corn nearby to justify the facility. So, it appears to be more nefarious.”

With their acquisition of 370 acres of farmland near Grand Forks, North Dakota, Fufeng Group has made a significant investment that might help the community by creating employment and generating vital tax income. The Wall Street Journal writes that the project, which is expected to cost $700 million, would also include building a maize mill.

After reading a private letter from the U.S. Air Force raising counterintelligence concerns regarding the Fufeng corn mill proposal because of its proximity to Grand Forks Air Force Base, Mayor Bochenski changed his mind and decided against construction, as was reported in The Wall Street Journal in January.

Grand Forks’ denial of Fufeng’s requests for construction permits signals a shift in the city’s planning philosophy.

The Lone Star Infrastructure Protection Act was ratified by Texas Governor Greg Abbott in June 2022. This law forbade enterprises from signing any contracts with organizations owned or run by China that dealt with “critical infrastructure.” The acquisition of property for a wind farm near to Laughlin Air Force Base by an accused former Chinese military commander sparked worries about state security and led Governor Abbott to take action.

Despite its American beginnings, Chinese people today possess a record quantity of agricultural property in the U.S., and the bulk of it is located inside Texas’ boundaries! The Wall Street Journal recently reported on this.

Recently, the America Changle Association – a prominent New York City social outfit connected to Chinese intelligence – was shut down following an FBI raid. This choice was made soon after it was claimed that important individuals had collaborated with China’s secret agency in 2021. This contentious group’s chapter came to an end with the shutdown, which sparked a lot of conversation about future national security problems.

China was prevented from finishing a $100 million garden project at the famed National Arboretum in Washington, D.C., by American authorities because of the project’s strategic importance within the capital’s topographic environment and the possible surveillance danger it may provide.

The DCNF attempted to contact the Chinese Consulate and Fufeng, but received no answer right away.
