According to the station and Raza Siddiqui, president of the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians Local 41, the three guys later rifled through the crew’s SUV and fled with a camera, two bags carrying equipment, and the photographer’s backpack. The union, according to Siddiqui, is planning a meeting for members to discuss safety. “Voice some of their concerns that they may have from the streets.”

According to Siddiqui, union-affiliated news organizations will pay security to safeguard camera personnel.

“We want to make sure that we provide a longer-lasting solution that we work not only with management but our members, and make sure that we read some protocols that everyone is happy with and feels can be a workable solution,” Siddiqui said.

Reporters are following a string of violent robberies that have occurred around the city, including an armed carjacking that took place on the same street last Sunday.

According to Luis Godinez, vice president of news at Univision Chicago, “gratefully, the crew is safe.”
