With a staggering 39 million citizens, California is the most populous state in the union and is well renowned for its enormous size and remarkable population. Despite this, groups who claim California has become too big to be governed as a single entity have been campaigning for its division into two halves in recent years.
A 501(c)(4) nonprofit group called New California State wants to secede from California and become the 51st state. The organization, as West Virginia previously did, reportedly thinks it has the right to secede from the present state and establish a new one under the US Constitution, according to the “About” section of its website.

The states are guaranteed protection from invasion under the Constitution, although this provision has not been upheld. Notwithstanding the state government’s failure to fulfill its commitment, Article IV, section 4 continues to be in force.
The “About” section further claims that the California government has broken the commitment made in the Constitution to halt “invasion and domestic violence.” It has also failed in terms of the income tax, standard of living, number of homeless people, gas charges, business climate, and education.
The founders of New California reportedly proclaimed their independence from California in 2018, according to USA Today. They read the Declaration of Independence they had written. According to a paper created by the organisation, “The current state of California has become governed by a tyranny.”
According to CBS News Robert Paul Preston, the founder of New California, said that the state had “been ungovernable for a long time.”
The Constitution does not prohibit the splitting up of states, although doing so is very difficult. The legislature of the state must first give its blessing to the separation. The plan would have to be presented to Congress, and the legislative body would need to give its blessing before it could go further.
Despite the fact that New California has not been able to successfully break away from California as of yet, the group is still active and has meetings on a regular basis.
