Vice President JD Vance issued a stark warning Friday that fraud within federal programs may be far more widespread—and costly—than Americans have been led to believe. Speaking at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, Vance announced the launch of a new White House task force aimed at uncovering and stopping what he described as systemic abuse stretching across multiple states and agencies.
According to Vance, a major fraud scandal uncovered in Minnesota is not an isolated incident, but rather a troubling glimpse into a much larger national issue. He suggested that similar operations could be siphoning off billions in taxpayer funds from programs designed to help struggling Americans.
“What we’re seeing in Minneapolis, it is replayed again and again and again across many different states and across many different programs,” Vance said. “It has to stop. The president of the United States has ordered us to stop it, and that’s what this task force is going to do.”
The initiative, formally known as the Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, was first unveiled by Donald Trump during his State of the Union address. It is expected to play a major role in the administration’s domestic policy push, particularly as concerns mount over government spending and accountability heading into the 2026 midterm elections.
