GOP Reps Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert asked House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) to release security footage from the U.S. Capitol Building from January 6, 2021, after it had been kept secret for two years. This will give the public a glimpse into one of America’s most unsettling days in recent memory.
In an interview with Tucker Carlson of Fox News on Friday, Rep. Gaetz (R-Florida) said that House Minority Leader McCarthy had struck a deal with him and Colorado Congresswoman Boebert in which he would supply surveillance video in return for their support as Speaker of the House.

“The American people deserve to know the truth about what happened on January 6th,” Gaetz told Carlson. “We have demanded to see all the footage. Transparency is coming.”
“Every time – from the JFK files, to 9/11, to now January 6th – it’s our own government, our own Department of Justice that seems to stand in the way of transparency,” added the Florida Rep.
“The Speaker of the House is now fulfilling the commitment he made to us, and he deserves a great deal of credit for it,” Gaetz said.
McCarthy told the media that by releasing the history of our country, Americans will have free access to a complete account of the events of January 6th without any interference from a political agenda.
McCarthy promised the media that he would chose whatever video to share “very thoughtful,” adding, “I think the American public should actually see all what happened instead of a report that’s written for political basis.”
Rep. Boebert tweeted on Saturday, “Speaker McCarthy says he’ll be releasing ALL the footage from January 6th. Considering all the public has seen are edited clips from a bunch of Democrats with an axe to grind, it sure will be nice to get some unbiased footage.”
Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) praised House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s decision to support individuals accused of being involved in the events on January 6 and praised it as an important step toward ensuring that everyone is given fair counsel in court.
“The defendants aren’t given the proper background to defend themselves. It has to happen. Absolutely. It has to happen,” The Washington Times was informed by Gosar.
“Let’s set it free, and while we’re doing that, let’s get the tape with Ms.Pelosi in conversation with the Gen. [Mark A. Milley] and the Capitol Police,” added Gosar.
