Many immigrant families are reportedly being forced to sleep on the floor of Terminal E at Boston’s Logan International Airport, according to WBZ-TV.

Ed Freni, interim CEO of the Massachusetts Port Authority, which oversees Logan, stated the airport is “not an appropriate place” to lodge migrants during a similar crisis in mid-November, according to a WBZ story.
As the state’s shelter system fills up, homeless families in Massachusetts have few choices. There are still around 7,500 families waiting.

According to a Medford lady helping at the airport, the lack of amenities causes refugees to worry greatly about hygiene.
“They don’t have access to a shower so there’s like some shower wipes, little towels just to clean up while they wait,” she told WBZ.
In order to maintain migrant security and optimize airport operations, Massachusetts State Police are compensated for overtime.
Governor Maura Healey, a Democrat, thanks the airport and state police, but she also stresses that federal action is required to address this urgent problem.
“We need D.C. to act. We need Congress to act, Healey pleaded.
“The path is there in terms of what needs to be done to fix the border situation, to fix some of the asylum processes and to get much-needed funding to some of the interior states who have had to shoulder the burden for a problem that is geopolitical and is not the state’s making,” she said.
Healey is requesting $250 million in emergency funding from the state legislature in order to control expenses this year.
According to WBZ, her government projects that costs might rise to $915 million in 2024 as more asylum seekers come in need of accommodation and care.
Her administration intends to use the $700 million state budget excess in a supplementary budget that it will submit shortly.
