Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican from Florida, sharply chastised a purported “immigration expert” who scoffed at her claims that the Biden administration was complicit in child trafficking at the southern border.
Rep. Luna was asking questions during a House hearing on immigration, when David J. Bier, associate director of immigration studies at the Cato Institute, openly laughed at her.

Luna became agitated throughout the conversation as she advocated dividing families when they were taken into the custody of the Border Patrol. This would enable authorities to authenticate IDs and determine whether the youngsters accompanied are, in fact, their own. The goal is to stop the widespread trafficking of kids by crooked coyotes.
“You talk about intentional trauma and that the Trump administration caused intentional trauma by separating these children from their quote, unquote parents,” The representative from Florida stated as she started her line of inquiry. “The fact is that one, you don’t know that these people are — why are you laughing? Mr. Bier, why are you laughing?”
“Because you said quote, unquote parents as if they really weren’t their parents,” Bier scoffed.
Luna attempted to refute such claim, stating, “You have no idea. Not only have you not been to the border…,” Bier, however, cut in, yelling, “I do have an idea!”
The congresswoman, however, disapproved of the notion that he or anybody else had a “idea” of the true parents of the children who are swarming the border illegally. She also made the case for a separation policy.
“Hold on, I’m not done. I’m not done. You have no idea if these people are their intentional parents or not,” she said. “You have no idea. That’s exactly why we do family separation!” she said.
Bier said, “We do,” once again.
Bier’s haughty reply and his disdainful contempt of child trafficking stoked Luna’s fury.

“Really? Are you psychic? Have you won the lotto, Mr. Bier? I don’t think you have. … The reason why we want family separation until we can confirm they are the actual biological parents …” She repeated herself when the Cato operator cut her off.
“You want family separation?” As Luna went on, he questioned incredulously, saying, “… is because these kids are being trafficked.”
She blasted Bier as she called it a day and said she would no longer be speaking with him because “what you did was destructive.”
According to Huff Post, Bier maintained that a 2021 study demonstrated the failure of the Trump administration’s family separation program.
Following the interaction, Luna sent X another video in which she declared she had no regrets about reprimanding Bier harshly.
“If you’re saying ‘family’ separation is bad thing, you’re a part of the problem. I make no apologies. Educate yourself and stop supporting a President that is part of the problem,” she wrote.
Regarding the problem of human trafficking along the southern border, many people agreed with Luna’s strategy.
Rep. Luna was commended by others for her reprimand.
Luna presents a legitimate worry. The veracity of these families is unknown, as is the possibility that the youngsters that CBP has detained were obtained to help illegal immigrants enter the nation. It is important to note that the Biden administration has ceased the DNA testing, which once helped American authorities confirm the link between adult migrants and the children they were traveling with.
Customs and Border Protection is aware of the practice of people buying kids to go with them over the border in the hopes of entering more quickly. Undoubtedly, the number of bogus family members seeking to cross the border has grown dramatically since CBP reported intercepting 6,200 cases of such attempts in 2019.
