“He didn’t have strong feelings about ICE,” Jahn’s brother, Noah Jahn, told the Daily Mail. He added that the shooter had never shown any signs of political extremism and said he was blindsided by the tragedy.
Online voter records revealed that Jahn was a registered independent who had cast ballots in both the 2020 Democratic primary and the 2024 general election, adding to the confusion over what may have driven him to commit such violence.
At a press briefing, FBI Director Kash Patel said agents are working tirelessly to determine whether Jahn had any political or ideological motive.
“Authorities are working to uncover an ideological motive behind this attack,” Patel explained, noting that the handwritten map taped to Jahn’s vehicle only made things more complicated.
The map included an ominous sign with black splatter on a white background stating:
“Radioactive fallout from nuclear detonations that’ve passed over these areas more than 2x since 1951.”

Reports from the New York Post indicate the bizarre drawing may have originated from research by Richard Miller, who documented how nuclear clouds from U.S. government testing in Nevada during the 1950s and 60s drifted across various states.
The strange evidence didn’t stop there. FBI Special Agent in Charge R. Joseph Rothrock told reporters that shell casings recovered near Jahn’s body contained handwritten notes aimed directly at ICE.
“What I can also tell you is that early evidence that we’ve seen from rounds that were found near the suspected shooter contain messages that are anti-ICE in nature,” Rothrock confirmed.
Social media activity reviewed by the Daily Mail shows Jahn’s mother was an outspoken liberal activist, frequently blasting Republicans over gun laws and mass shootings. After the 2022 Uvalde tragedy, she wrote:
“Governor Abbott, Senator Cornyn, and Senator Cruz, how does it make you feel that your action to open up gun laws is responsible for the killing of 21 more people? Do you secretly sit in front of a tv and smile a demented smile? You must be proud of all the money that sits in your bank accounts from gun lobby support. Was it worth it, Governor Abbott? How about you senators?”
Federal investigators say the combination of anti-ICE messages, political commentary from family members, and a bizarre nuclear fallout map has left them with more questions than answers as they work to determine what drove Joshua Jahn to carry out the deadly attack.
