Democrats spent the past week celebrating their election wins and insisting they had discovered a new political superweapon: the word “affordability.” They marched onto cable news claiming they finally had the perfect narrative to bludgeon Donald Trump with heading into 2026.
But the victory lap didn’t last long.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stepped onto Fox News and delivered a reality check so blunt that Democrats instantly lost their talking point — because the man in charge of the nation’s finances told the country exactly where the inflation nightmare began.
While Democrats continue pretending they just stumbled upon an affordability crisis created out of thin air, Bessent reminded them of something obvious — and damning.
“Well, they should know about it because they caused it,” Bessent said on Fox News. “It was the worst inflation in 40 or 50 years by this massive government spending, spend, spend, spend.”
