A woman who became a viral internet sensation after delivering an unusual speech about Somali identity is now facing serious federal charges following violent anti ICE unrest in Minnesota.
Nasra Ahmed, whose bizarre “bananas and rice” analogy spread across social media last week, has been arrested and charged for allegedly assaulting federal law enforcement officers during riots in Minneapolis. What began as an online joke has quickly turned into a criminal case with potentially life altering consequences.
Attorney General Pam Bondi traveled to Minneapolis on Wednesday to announce the arrest of Ahmed and 15 additional suspects accused of attacking federal agents amid escalating chaos tied to immigration enforcement operations.
From Viral Clip to Federal Defendant
Ahmed first gained national attention after holding a press conference at the Minnesota State Capitol, where she accused ICE agents of targeting and abusing her during an immigration operation in a predominantly Somali neighborhood.
She alleged federal agents kidnapped her, used racial slurs, and caused a concussion. But the accusations were quickly overshadowed by her attempt to explain Somali American identity using food metaphors.
